On many occasions over the last seven months, we’ve heard our history mentioned. Graydon Jessup spoke about the history he participated in, the history prior to his time as pastor, and some of Parkside’s history after he left. One of the reasons to remember is to ground us, not unlike Israel.
The merger of Parkside and Faith Baptist Church is a milestone in Faith Christian Community’s history that Graydon didn’t speak about. I was a member of Parkside then, serving on the worship leadership team. During the merger, many of us experienced great joy, heartache, and at times wonder what Christ was doing through it all. I submit we are in the midst of another transition, not unlike the merger. I know I sometimes feel both heartache and joy daily. I know I’m constantly amazed at what Christ is doing through His people. Although this transition also involves multiple churches, this time it’s one church coming alongside another.
Romans 12:13 – When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.
As part of the elder advisory team, I attended a meeting with the Changepoint executive leadership team. At that meeting, they asked how they could help. Through that discussion, they offered to provide someone every weekend to preach/teach. At that point, I became emotional. I could not believe what Christ was doing. I could not believe what Christ was doing through Changepoint. They offered Dan Jarrell to be our interim pastor for six months. We accepted. Through Changepoint’s generosity, we have some stability. I know I sense it. Our load is lighter, which makes it easier to focus on Christ.
Last week, the FCC elders met with the elders and pastors at Changepoint. It was another wonderful time. They simply asked how we were doing. They laid hands on us and prayed for us. They prayed for you. Again, I became emotional over it all. God is Good!
Changepoint has forever written itself into the history of Faith Christian Community. Our relationship is different now. I’ll never again be able to simply view them as another church in Anchorage. I look forward to discovering what Christ is doing through this relationship. I thank Christ for Changepoint, and their willingness to help.

Thank you Richard for this update. I completely agree that Changepoint has become much more than just another church in Anchorage. Our God is bigger than what we have been through and is showing His love for the Body in Anchorage. We all should have the same goal; That Jesus be glorified and I believe He has shown His Love for the Body in Anchorage.
I am praying for our leadership as you begin the search for a new pastor or pastors.
